Don’t ask what it means or what it refers to.
Don’t ask what the work is.
Rather, see what the work does.
- Eva Hesse
A multi-media artist and educator, Grace Davis primarily works in acrylic, gouache, watercolor, pencil, and charcoal. Presenting the duality of lasting and ephemeral mark-making, Davis' work considers the visual proximity of organic shapes. However, the work often only allows the viewer only a window into the process, obscuring the totality; a mere window into the life of the work. Her work is inspired by her human-made environments, as well as, the natural landscape.
Grace Davis (b. Charleston, SC 1988) is a multi-media artist and educator currently residing in Reno, Nevada. She has received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a MA, with an emphasis on Teaching and Learning in Art and Design, from Rhode Island School of Design.
Davis has extensive experience facilitating public programs and educational opportunities at art museums, non-profit organizations, and government entities. She has taught introductory art classes, printmaking, and textile dyeing at the University of Nevada, Reno, NV; Redux Contemporary Art Center, Charleston SC; The Fabric Workshop, Philadelphia PA; AS220, Providence RI; The Chinati Foundation, Marfa TX; and The Art Association, Jackson WY. She has taught Visual Foundations at the University of Nevada, Reno, and is currently adjunct faculty in the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Truckee Meadows Community College, Reno, NV.
